Two motorists were seriously injured and had to be freed from their vehicles following a head-on crash in Scugog Township on Monday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called to Lakeridge Road near Blue Mountain Road, northwest of Port Perry, around 5 p.m. Police say a southbound Ford hatchback collided with a northbound Nissan SUV.
Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles and required extrication. One was airlifted to a Toronto-area trauma centre and is reported to be in stable condition, while the other was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Durham Regional Police collision investigators attended the scene, and Lakeridge Road was closed for several hours as evidence was gathered. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
