Three people were injured following a fire at a Toronto apartment building early Sunday morning.

Toronto police say the blaze broke out around 1:50 a.m. at a building on Queen Street West near Sorauren Avenue, just east of Roncesvalles Avenue. A man in his 40s was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, while two other residents were treated for injuries described as non-life-threatening. The property is owned by the Parkdale Activity-Recreation Centre.

Firefighters arriving on scene encountered smoke and flames on the main floor, prompting a full evacuation of the building. A TTC shelter bus was deployed to provide warmth for displaced residents.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with both police and fire services continuing their inquiries. As a result of the emergency response, TTC 301 Queen streetcars were diverted from Queen Street West for several hours overnight.
