Highway 11 has been shut down in both directions between Highway 117 in Bracebridge and Doe Lake Road in Gravenhurst following a series of crashes Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency officials report that one person was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, and an Ornge air ambulance has been placed on standby for a possible transfer, depending on weather conditions. Police and paramedics say several collisions occurred in the area, with multiple vehicles ending up in ditches.
The closure began around 12:45 p.m., after OPP initially restricted traffic between Highway 118 and Doe Lake Road because of worsening road conditions and limited visibility. Authorities continue to assess injuries and investigate the incidents, urging motorists to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.
