A crash involving a transport truck carrying salt led to an extended road closure in Harriston and resulted in charges against a Brampton driver.

Wellington County OPP responded to a single-vehicle collision on Highway 23 around 5 a.m. Tuesday. Police said the truck lost its load during the crash, spilling salt across the roadway.

The spill forced the closure of Highway 23 for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene. The road was fully reopened by mid-afternoon.

A 35-year-old Brampton resident has been charged with careless driving and was issued a $490 fine along with six demerit points.
