A 75-year-old man has died after a two-vehicle crash in Markham on Thursday morning. York Regional Police were called just after 11 a.m. to 9th Line, between Elgin Mills Road and 19th Avenue.
Police say the elderly man was taken to hospital without vital signs and was later pronounced dead. The driver of the other vehicle, a 23-year-old man, suffered serious injuries. Investigators believe the collision may have been head-on.
A York Region paramedic who was driving behind one of the vehicles at the time of the crash is considered a key witness and transported one of the injured drivers to Markham Stouffville Hospital.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation, including whether road conditions were a contributing factor. The road is expected to remain closed for several hours as the investigation continues.
