Whiteout conditions caused by blowing snow led to several collision investigations across Waterloo Region on Thursday afternoon. Strong wind gusts and intermittent flurries significantly reduced visibility, creating hazardous driving conditions.
Within an hour, Waterloo Regional Police reported three separate crashes in area townships. One collision on Line 86 in Wellesley, between Chalmers Forest Road and Wellington Road 11, involved four vehicles, including two transport trucks, and resulted in reported injuries. Another crash occurred at Cedar Creek Road and Trussler Road in North Dumfries, while a third was reported on Arthur Street South near Listowel Road in Elmira.
Later in the afternoon, police confirmed Fischer-Hallman Road was closed between Wallaceton Way and Huron Road in Kitchener due to a separate collision.
Drivers reported difficult commuting conditions, with blowing snow making it hard to see lane markings on many roads. Police issued a public advisory warning of increased calls for service due to the weather and urged motorists to slow down, stay alert, and use extra caution, particularly in rural areas where visibility may be reduced.
