A chain-reaction crash on Line 86 escalated from a minor incident into a serious collision, sending two people to hospital. Waterloo Regional Police responded to the scene in Wellesley Township shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday.

Investigators say two passenger vehicles were involved in a minor crash and had pulled over. While they were stopped, two transport trucks collided on the same road, and one of the trucks struck the parked vehicles. A 25-year-old driver from the initial crash suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital outside the area. A 57-year-old truck driver was seriously hurt and also transported out of region.

The road was closed for several hours as police investigated. No information has been released on potential charges.

Update – Police have charged the 57-year-old truck driver from Brant County with dangerous operation of a conveyance, careless driving, and driving while using a handheld entertainment device.
