Three adults were displaced after a fire broke out early Sunday morning at a triplex in Vanier.
Ottawa Fire Services says multiple 9-1-1 calls were received shortly after 2 a.m. from residents in the 100 block of Jeanne Mance Street reporting smoke and flames inside the building. Fire crews arrived within minutes and found active fire conditions.
All occupants had safely evacuated the triplex and were sheltering outside in freezing temperatures. An OC Transpo bus was brought in to provide temporary warmth.
Firefighters say intense heat caused flames to push through a bedroom window and vent to the exterior, but a rapid attack kept the fire contained to a single room. The blaze was brought under control by 2:25 a.m.
Crews carried out overhaul operations and confirmed the fire did not spread beyond the affected bedroom. Ventilation fans were used to remove remaining smoke, and Victim Services was called in to support the three displaced residents.
