One woman has died and four others were hospitalized after a serious two-vehicle crash in West Nipissing late Saturday night.
Ontario Provincial Police were called to the collision on Nipissing Street around 11:40 p.m. Police later confirmed that a 62-year-old woman from Sudbury, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead at the scene. The two other occupants in that vehicle suffered minor injuries and were treated by paramedics on site.
Four people from the second vehicle were transported to hospital by ground ambulance and Air Ornge. Police later confirmed that one of those individuals sustained life-threatening injuries, while the remaining three were seriously injured but are expected to survive.
OPP collision reconstruction and technical investigators were brought in to examine the scene and determine what led to the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
Road closures were in place for several hours, with Front Street reopening around 10:20 a.m. and Nipissing Street reopening shortly after 10:45 a.m. Police are asking witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the area at the time of the collision to contact OPP or Crime Stoppers.
Update – A second person, a 15-year-old girl, has died from her injuries sustained from the crash.
