Ontario Provincial Police have laid impaired driving charges against a Manitoba commercial truck driver following a single-vehicle crash in northwestern Ontario.
Police say that around 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 23, an officer on patrol discovered a tractor-trailer in a ditch along Highway 17 near Red Rock. Officers suspected the driver had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, and an investigation confirmed impairment.
The driver, a 62-year-old man from Winnipeg, has been charged with dangerous operation and two impaired driving offences, including operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol level above the legal limit.
In addition to the charges, the driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the tractor-trailer was impounded for seven days. The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Nipigon on March 3.
