A 23-year-old Brampton man is facing multiple charges after police say a hit-and-run crash in Mississauga led to the seizure of drugs valued at about $200,000.

Peel Regional Police were called to the intersection of Hurontario Street and Elm Drive, north of Central Parkway, around 11 p.m. on Jan. 11 following a collision involving a black Hyundai Elantra and a black Range Rover Evoque. Witnesses reported that the driver of the Range Rover fled the scene on foot.

Police say their Air Support Unit tracked the suspect as he ran from the area and allegedly discarded several bags while trying to avoid officers. With help from the canine unit and investigators, the suspect was arrested after a short pursuit.

According to police, the abandoned bags contained significant amounts of suspected fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine. Officers later executed a search warrant at the suspect’s Mississauga residence, where additional methamphetamine and cash were seized.

Nitin Malik, 23, has been charged with failing to remain at the scene of a collision, breaching a release order, and multiple counts of possession of controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking, including cocaine, methamphetamine, and opioids. The allegations have not been tested in court.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Peel police’s 11 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau or Crime Stoppers.
