Ontario Provincial Police have charged a commercial truck driver after he continued operating a severely damaged tractor-trailer for several hours following a crash.

The incident started around 6 a.m. on January 22 on Highway 17 near Borups Corners, roughly 50 kilometres east of Dryden, when officers responded to a collision involving a commercial vehicle. Due to the extent of the damage, police escorted the truck off the highway to prevent further risk. After officers left the scene, the driver chose to continue driving despite the vehicle being unsafe.

Around 12:30 p.m. the same day, police received another report from a concerned motorist about a dangerously driven commercial truck. Officers located the vehicle again and found it had multiple flat tires, damaged rims, a door that would not operate, and other serious mechanical issues.

A 45-year-old man from Cambridge, Ontario, was charged with operating an unsafe commercial motor vehicle. Police emphasized that public safety is the top priority. The truck and trailer were towed and impounded, and the driver was issued a future court date.
