Three Ottawa residents are facing multiple charges after an early-morning police operation involving a stolen vehicle ended in a crash in the city’s west end.

Ottawa police say officers responded to a report of a vehicle theft around 2:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Lincoln Heights area. About 25 minutes later, the vehicle was spotted near Britannia Bay, but police did not pursue due to unsafe speed and road conditions.

The vehicle was seen again shortly after 2:27 a.m. near Highway 417 and March Road in Kanata, where officers deployed a spike belt that flattened all four tires. Despite the damage, the vehicle continued for several kilometres on the highway before exiting at Kanata Avenue and deliberately colliding with a police cruiser.

A 28-year-old man, a 31-year-old woman, and a 42-year-old man were arrested at the scene. Police say the trio is charged with several offences, including motor vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, assaulting a peace officer, fleeing police, dangerous driving, uttering threats, and breaching probation. All three appeared in court later that day.
