A garage fire caused significant damage to a home in northwest Barrie on Sunday afternoon, prompting a large emergency response. Barrie Fire officials say crews were called to a residence on Benson Drive around 2:20 p.m. after a vehicle that had been partially parked inside the garage was started to warm up and then caught fire.

The flames quickly spread to the garage and into part of the attic space. Six fire trucks were dispatched, and firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control. Crews were later seen dealing with remaining hotspots and removing a heavily damaged garage door, while police, paramedics, and utility workers also attended the scene.

No injuries were reported, though the two residents will be temporarily displaced due to smoke damage inside the home. The cause of the vehicle fire and the extent of the damage have not yet been determined.
