Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services responded to a residential kitchen fire over the weekend that was caused by unattended cooking.

Crews were called to a home in the 0–100 block of Northern Avenue shortly after noon on Saturday. Firefighters were able to quickly contain and extinguish the blaze. An investigation later determined the fire started due to unattended cooking, according to fire officials.

The kitchen sustained significant smoke and fire damage, but no injuries were reported. Paramedic services and PUC Services also attended the scene as a precaution.
