A worker has died after falling from Pier 14 into Hamilton Harbour, according to Hamilton police.
The incident occurred Monday while the worker was clearing snow near the end of the dock. Police said equipment went into the water, and the worker ended up falling in as well. Emergency crews, including police, firefighters, and paramedics, responded and attempted lifesaving measures.
The worker was transported to hospital without vital signs and was later pronounced dead, paramedic commander Dave Thompson confirmed. The individual has not been publicly identified.
The Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Skills Development is investigating the incident as a potential workplace fatality. The ministry identified the site as Ontario Shipyards Inc., a company that specializes in ship repair.
Ontario Shipyards did not respond to requests for comment prior to publication.
