A 23-year-old woman narrowly avoided a serious crash after her vehicle went off a highway on-ramp in Niagara Falls and came to rest above the QEW.
Ontario Provincial Police say the incident occurred around 10:50 a.m. on January 30 as the woman was travelling on the on-ramp from the Fort Erie–bound QEW to Highway 420. Police reported that icy road conditions caused her to lose control, sending the vehicle into the snow-covered shoulder.
The impact pushed the vehicle over a guardrail, where it flipped onto its side and became lodged in nearby trees and brush. The vegetation prevented the vehicle from rolling down a slope onto the heavily travelled QEW below. Witnesses stopped to help the driver out of the vehicle, and she was not injured.
Police say the incident highlights the dangers of winter driving and are urging motorists to use caution in extreme weather conditions.
