A Whitby woman is facing several impaired driving charges after police say she hit a parked car near a public school and left the scene.

Durham Regional Police were called to Fifewood Crescent near Fallingbrook Street around 3:50 p.m. on January 30. Investigators allege a grey Kia sedan struck a parked white Hyundai while both drivers were in the area to pick up children.

Police say the driver of the Hyundai attempted to speak with the Kia’s driver, but the Kia sped away. Witnesses reported the driver appeared to be impaired. Officers later located the vehicle at a nearby residence, where the 32-year-old woman was found and arrested without incident. No injuries were reported.

At the police station, breath tests recorded alcohol levels of 170 and 180 milligrams per 100 millilitres of blood, more than twice the legal limit.

The woman is charged with impaired operation, impaired operation exceeding the legal limit, failing to remain at the scene of a collision, and dangerous operation. She was released on an undertaking.
