Ontario Provincial Police say winter conditions and speed are believed to be factors after a vehicle vaulted off a Highway 427 overpass and crashed into traffic on Highway 401 in Toronto.
The collision happened around 6:55 p.m. on February 1. Police say the vehicle was travelling southbound on Highway 427 when it struck the right side of the overpass leading to Highway 401. The impact caused the vehicle to launch over a concrete barrier.
After leaving the overpass, the vehicle struck a transport truck travelling eastbound on Highway 401 before coming to rest upside down near the Eglinton Avenue exit. Two people were taken to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Video of the crash, captured on dashcam and shared on social media, shows the vehicle airborne before slamming into the trailer of the transport truck. Debris can be seen scattering across the roadway, forcing another truck behind it to stop abruptly.
