An adult and two children were displaced after a kitchen fire in an Ottawa townhouse Wednesday morning. Ottawa Fire Services responded to the blaze on Ledbury Avenue around 9:47 a.m. following multiple reports of heavy black smoke coming from the middle unit. All residents had safely evacuated before crews arrived. Firefighters contained the flames to the first floor, preventing damage to neighbouring units, and brought the fire under control by 10:25 a.m. No injuries were reported.
The townhouse is part of an Ottawa Community Housing complex. OCH officials said staff attended the scene to support affected tenants and coordinate assistance based on individual needs and the length of displacement. Residents with insurance may receive accommodations through their providers, while those without coverage can access support from the Canadian Red Cross and temporary housing assistance from the City of Ottawa.
Fire officials noted the incident was the third fire crews responded to within roughly 24 hours, following a commercial fire on Baseline Road Tuesday afternoon and another kitchen fire on Old Richmond Road later that evening.
