One man has died after a house fire in Courtice late Sunday night.
According to the Durham Regional Police Service, emergency crews were called to a residence on Nash Road just before 10:40 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered one person deceased inside the home.
The cause of the fire is now under investigation by the Office of the Fire Marshal, which is assisting at the scene.
Update – Thje victim is identified to be 78-year-old Gerard Schad.
A suspect was arrested on April 1 after allegedly using a makeshift electronic device to ignite another house in Courtice. Matthew Bryce Shawn Jones, 23, has been charged with manslaughter along with multiple counts of arson with disregard for human life, mischief under $5,000, breaching conditions, and prowling at night.
