A 14-year-old from Cornwall is facing a long list of criminal charges after police linked him to several stolen vehicle incidents and collisions.
Investigators say a car reported stolen on Feb. 15 was crashed the following day. The teen is accused of driving the vehicle and leaving without stopping.
Police were called again early Monday about another stolen vehicle allegedly involving the same youth. During that encounter, he is accused of deliberately striking a police cruiser before fleeing the area. The officer inside was unharmed.
Later that morning, at about 9 a.m., the teen allegedly collided with a school bus while driving a stolen vehicle. No injuries were reported among the bus driver or students.
He was taken into custody later that day. Authorities allege he became violent during the arrest, assaulting one officer and biting another.
The charges include three counts of failing to remain at the scene of a crash, three counts of possessing stolen property under $5,000, two counts of dangerous driving, two counts of assaulting a peace officer, one count of assault with a weapon against an officer, and one count of resisting arrest. He also faces two provincial charges for driving without a valid licence.
Because of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the teen’s name cannot be made public.
