Five people were rescued from a mangled vehicle after a head-on collision in Mulmur in the early hours of Feb. 14.
Ontario Provincial Police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Airport Road and 5 Sideroad at approximately 2:58 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found both vehicles extensively damaged.
One of the drivers had already exited their vehicle and was nearby. The second vehicle sustained catastrophic damage, leaving five occupants trapped inside until firefighters freed them.
Police say their investigation shifted toward suspected impairment after speaking with one of the drivers. A 23-year-old man from Grimsby has been charged with impaired driving involving alcohol and drugs, dangerous operation, cocaine possession, and having both open alcohol and accessible cannabis in a vehicle.
He is set to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville. His licence has been suspended and his vehicle seized.
