Authorities are investigating a powerful explosion that destroyed a home in Oshawa over the weekend.
According to the Durham Regional Police Service, officers responded shortly after 10 p.m. on Feb. 21 to reports of a loud blast near Gibbons Street and Annapolis Avenue, followed by a house bursting into flames.
When emergency crews arrived, the residence was completely engulfed, with debris scattered throughout the surrounding area. Oshawa Fire Services worked to extinguish the blaze while police managed road closures and traffic in the vicinity. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the explosion remains unknown. The police service’s Central East Division Criminal Investigations Branch has taken over the case and is asking residents who were nearby — or who may have video footage from phones, dash cams, or security systems — to assist with the investigation.
