A 42-year-old woman from Barrie has been charged after allegedly crashing her vehicle while impaired with her five-year-old child inside.
Police say the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday on North Village Way at the Park Place plaza. Officers responded to reports that a suspected impaired driver had struck safety pillars outside an indoor play facility. Witnesses indicated the Kia narrowly avoided hitting the building’s main entrance.
Investigators allege the woman attempted to leave the scene, but the vehicle was too damaged from the collision to travel far. During the investigation, she provided breath samples that police say measured three times the legal alcohol limit.
No one was hurt in the incident. The child was later released into the care of a family member.
According to the Barrie Police Service, the woman faces charges of impaired operation, impaired operation with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams, and dangerous driving. She has since been released and is expected to appear in court at a later date.
