A 63-year-old man from Windsor has been charged with dangerous driving after allegedly striking an unoccupied police cruiser and fleeing the scene.

Windsor police say the incident occurred shortly after 10 a.m. on Glengarry Avenue. Officers, who were responding to a separate call in the 300 block, were notified by bystanders that a red sedan had hit their parked cruiser.

Investigators report that the vehicle mounted the sidewalk, narrowly missing a pedestrian, struck a guardrail, and then collided with the police cruiser before heading southbound. The damaged sedan was later located in the 900 block of Ouellette Avenue.

After reviewing surveillance footage, police identified the driver, arrested him nearby, and charged him with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
