Waterloo Regional Police are investigating a hit-and-run incident that escalated into a physical altercation. The event occurred on February 26 around 11:10 a.m. at University Avenue East and Bridge Street West.
Authorities discovered that the drivers of two vehicles were involved in a minor collision, which led to an argument and physical confrontation. During the incident, one driver allegedly used racial slurs while assaulting the other and causing further damage to their vehicle before fleeing the scene.
The victim, a 65-year-old man from Waterloo, reported no injuries. The investigation is ongoing, and police anticipate charges. Witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage are urged to come forward, and anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers.
Update – Police announced on Mar 8 that a 26-year-old man from Kitchener was arrested on March 3. He faces charges including assault, mischief under $5,000, failing to remain at the scene of a collision, and careless driving.
