Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services is investigating a weekend blaze that heavily damaged a semi-detached house on Greenfield Drive in Sault Ste. Marie.
Emergency crews were dispatched shortly after 9 a.m. on Feb. 28. When firefighters arrived, thick smoke and visible flames were coming from the residence. Crews worked to bring the fire under control and helped occupants evacuate the adjoining unit. No injuries were reported.
Utility providers, including PUC Services and Enbridge Gas, also attended the scene. The structure suffered extensive damage.
Due to the severity of the structural impact, officials say the cause of the fire remains undetermined. Public education officer Aaron Gravelle added that while the destruction was significant, a full damage estimate is not yet available, as assessments are still underway.
