A major fire in Ayr is under investigation by Waterloo Regional Police Service and the Ontario Fire Marshal after heavily damaging a building on Northumberland Street on Monday morning.

The blaze, reported around 9:15 a.m., sent one person to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The fire destroyed much of the top floor, which houses several businesses including Hitched Coffee and Ayr Village Pizza.

Emergency crews remain on scene, and a section of Northumberland Street is closed while the investigation continues. The Township of North Dumfries confirmed additional closures affecting Stanley Street, including the stretch between Swan Street and the Piper/Church Street intersection. These closures are expected to remain in place through Monday evening.
