An apartment building in Old East Village was evacuated Tuesday night after an electrical fire broke out.
Firefighters responded to the building near Dundas Street and Hewitt Street around 9 p.m. after tenants noticed smoke and a strong burning odor. No injuries were reported following the incident.
Crews determined the fire started in a basement unit. By disconnecting the electrical source, firefighters were able to contain the flames and prevent further damage.
