A man is facing multiple charges after allegedly stealing a snow removal vehicle and crashing it into the emergency department entrance at Toronto’s SickKids Hospital on Monday afternoon.
Police say the vehicle had been left unattended when the suspect got into the driver’s seat and drove it a short distance before striking the building’s entrance doors. The man was arrested a short time later and taken to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Authorities have identified the suspect as 37-year-old Norman Gayvan Lane, who has no fixed address. He has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, property damage endangering life and mischief over $5,000.
Hospital officials said the emergency department remains open and continues to operate normally, adding that patients and families can still come to the hospital for care if needed.
