Emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle crash in Ottawa Monday night that left one person trapped inside a damaged vehicle.
Firefighters were called by Ottawa police at about 8:32 p.m. to the intersection of Nanaimo Drive and Richmond Road. Crews arrived within minutes and found both vehicles with deployed airbags.
Two occupants from one vehicle and the driver of the other were able to get out on their own, but a passenger remained trapped inside the second vehicle. Firefighters stabilized the scene and used hydraulic rescue tools to remove the badly damaged passenger-side door.
The extrication began shortly after 8:40 p.m., and the passenger was safely freed a few minutes later and handed over to paramedics. Ottawa paramedics later confirmed that none of the people involved suffered serious injuries.
Before leaving, firefighters disconnected the vehicles’ batteries and used absorbent materials to manage leaking fluids at the scene.
