A pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in Barrie late Wednesday night.

Police say the incident happened shortly before 9 p.m. at the intersection of Sunnidale Road and Wellington Street West. When officers arrived, they found a woman lying in the intersection with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Paramedics transported her to hospital for treatment.

The driver, a 56-year-old man from Barrie, remained at the scene but was unable to provide valid documentation. Officers reported he appeared impaired, noting symptoms such as constricted pupils, slow and deliberate movements, and slurred speech.

He now faces multiple charges, including possession of methamphetamine, operating a vehicle causing bodily harm, driving without insurance, and failing to provide a licence and vehicle permit. Authorities also suspended his driver’s licence for 90 days and impounded the vehicle for seven days.

The intersection remained closed for several hours while police conducted their investigation and reopened around 12:45 a.m.
