Six people, including a baby, were hospitalized with minor injuries after a collision between an SUV and a GO Transit bus in St. Catharines on Sunday.

Niagara Regional Police say the crash occurred in the city’s north end near North Service Road and YMCA Drive, just off the Queen Elizabeth Way. Investigators report that a Honda CR-V traveling north crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a southbound bus.

There were 18 passengers on board the bus at the time. Five passengers and the driver were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police allege the 56-year-old driver from Omemee was impaired, with a blood alcohol level approximately three times the legal limit. He also faces a charge related to having cannabis readily accessible in the vehicle. His licence has been temporarily suspended, and he was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for a later date.
