Police are appealing to the public for help locating a vehicle linked to a serious hit-and-run in Barrhaven that left a crossing guard critically injured.
Ottawa Police Service say a man in his 50s was struck around 8:20 a.m. Monday while working near an elementary school on Cedarview Road at Kennevale Drive, close to Mary Honeywell Elementary School and the Barrhaven Child Care Centre. Investigators believe a dark-coloured Ford F-150 was involved and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Paramedics reported the victim suffered critical injuries and was stabilized at the scene before being transported to hospital, where he remains in life-threatening condition.
The area, including Cedarview Road between Kennevale Drive and Maravista Drive, was closed for several hours during the investigation before reopening shortly after 1 p.m. Police continue to investigate and are urging witnesses to contact the Collision Investigations Unit.
Update – The crossing guard, identified as 55-year-old Peter Clark, has died from his injuries at the hospital. The accused, identified as 19-year-old Xzander Wright, has been taken into custody by Ottawa police in connection to the fatal hit-and-run. Police confirmed the charge relates to failing to stop at an accident that resulted in death under the Criminal Code.
