Six people were evacuated after a fire broke out in a three-storey building in Kitchener on Tuesday evening.
Fire crews responded around 6:15 p.m. to King Street West, where the building contained a vacant commercial space on the ground floor and residential units above. The road was temporarily closed between Queen Street and Ontario Street as firefighters worked to control the blaze and clear heavy smoke.
Officials say the fire was accidental and limited to the contents of a single apartment, with no structural damage to the building. One resident has been displaced as a result.
Damage is estimated at approximately $50,000.
