The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has deployed investigators after a train derailment in St. Catharines on Monday morning.
The incident involved a Canadian National Railway (CN) train that went off the tracks east of Glendale Avenue near Keele Street. Authorities reported multiple railcars derailed, with later confirmation that 13 cars were involved, some scattered across the tracks in a zigzag pattern.
No injuries or fires were reported. The train was carrying polyethylene, a non-hazardous material commonly used in manufacturing household products. While some of the material spilled, officials said there is no risk to public safety.
Both the Transportation Safety Board and CN are working to determine the cause of the derailment. The area was temporarily closed, but the obstruction has since been cleared and traffic has resumed.
