A 49-year-old man is dead following a fatal head-on crash on Highway 21 just south of Port Elgin.

Emergency crews, including South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police, firefighters, and paramedics, responded to the collision Tuesday around 5:23 p.m. The incident involved a pickup truck and an SUV.

The SUV driver sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup truck driver was taken to hospital, though the extent of their injuries has not been released.

The investigation remains ongoing, with assistance from the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team. Highway 21 was shut down for several hours but has since reopened.

Police are asking local residents, businesses, and motorists who were in the area at the time to review any security or dashcam footage that might help determine what caused the crash.
