A serious ATV crash in Kawartha Lakes last Friday afternoon left one passenger with life-altering injuries and led to impaired driving charges against the operator.

The single-vehicle incident occurred around 4:55 p.m. on Mount Horeb Road near Old Mill Road in Manvers Township. Police say both the driver and passenger were injured, and neither was wearing a helmet.

A 33-year-old man from Emily Township was airlifted to a trauma centre, while the driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

Authorities allege the 37-year-old driver was impaired at the time of the crash and have charged him with impaired operation and exceeding the legal blood alcohol limit. His licence has been suspended for 90 days, and the ATV was impounded for a week. He is expected to appear in court at a later date.
