A Brampton man has been charged following a serious hit-and-run that left a pedestrian critically injured in Etobicoke on Saturday night.
Toronto police responded around 9:23 p.m. to reports of a collision in the Rexdale area near Albion Road and Islington Avenue. Investigators say a 58-year-old man was walking along a sidewalk when a westbound red Toyota Corolla veered across into oncoming lanes, drove onto the sidewalk, and struck him.
The vehicle then continued into a nearby parking lot, where it hit a fence and two parked cars. The injured pedestrian was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, while two passengers in the car sustained minor injuries and were also hospitalized.
Police say the driver fled the scene on foot. The following day, a 40-year-old man from Brampton turned himself in and was arrested. Suraju Ishau now faces multiple charges related to dangerous driving causing bodily harm and failing to remain at the scene.
He is scheduled to appear in bail court on Monday. Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
