Firefighters in Thunder Bay responded Thursday afternoon to a house fire on Luci Court that left one resident critically injured.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from a single-family home and quickly upgraded the response to a second alarm as conditions inside deteriorated. Firefighters entered the structure to carry out an interior attack and simultaneously searched the home in near-zero visibility.

An unconscious occupant was located inside and brought outside, where crews began emergency medical treatment until paramedics arrived and took over care.

The blaze, believed to have started in a rear bedroom, was brought under control through a coordinated firefighting effort.
