A fatal pedestrian collision in Mississauga early Wednesday morning has led to major road closures as police investigate.
Emergency responders were called to the intersection of Hurontario Street and Derry Road West around 3:45 a.m., where a 47-year-old man from Brampton was found critically injured and later pronounced dead at the scene.
Peel Regional Police believe the victim may have been hit by two separate vehicles. Investigators suspect the first driver left the scene, while the second driver remained and is cooperating. Police say the man was already on the roadway when the second vehicle struck him, though details are still being confirmed.
The Major Collision Bureau is handling the investigation, with officers expected to stay in the area for several hours to gather evidence and speak with witnesses.
Several roads remain closed, including sections of Derry Road and Hurontario Street in both directions. Drivers are advised to avoid the area and find alternate routes.
Update – Police have arrested a 61-year-old Toronto man, Sergio Dacosta, on April 17. He faces a charge of failing to remain at the scene of a collision causing death. Authorities have also recovered and seized the suspected vehicle involved.
