A barn in Brantford was destroyed in a fire now considered suspicious by investigators.

Fire crews were called to Mount Pleasant Road around 3:30 p.m. Friday and arrived to find the structure already fully engulfed. Witnesses described thick black smoke and rapidly spreading flames, with emergency vehicles quickly filling the area as crews from multiple departments responded.

Seventeen firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, bringing it under control about an hour later. An excavator was later used to break apart the debris and extinguish remaining hotspots.

By the next morning, the barn had been reduced to charred remains. No injuries were reported.

Police have since confirmed the fire is being treated as suspicious, and the cause is still under investigation. Authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward.
