A 39-year-old woman from Serpent River First Nation is facing an impaired driving charge after a weekend crash on Highway 17.
Ontario Provincial Police say they were called around 8:30 a.m. on April 18 about a single-vehicle collision where a white car had left the highway and gone into an embankment within the community. By the time officers arrived, the vehicle had already been removed.
Police later located the car turning into a driveway on Rio Subdivision Road. During their interaction with the driver, officers determined she had consumed an intoxicating substance. She was arrested and assessed by a drug recognition evaluator.
Following the evaluation, she was charged with operating a vehicle while impaired by drugs. Her licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded under provincial rules.
She has been released and is scheduled to appear in an Elliot Lake court on June 11.
