Ottawa firefighters responded Wednesday afternoon to a residential blaze in the city’s west end that caused significant damage to a home but resulted in only minor injuries.
Emergency crews were called to Andover Place, east of Woodroffe Avenue, at about 3:53 p.m. after multiple 911 reports of a fire that began in a hedge and spread to a house and a nearby vehicle. Firefighters arrived within minutes and quickly began extinguishing the flames.
The fire was brought under control shortly after 4:05 p.m., with crews spending more than an hour at the scene to fully contain and monitor hot spots. One person was treated on site for minor injuries but did not require hospital transport, and searches confirmed no one was trapped inside the residence.
A neighbouring home sustained some heat-related damage, though firefighters were able to prevent the blaze from spreading further. Victim services were also called in to support affected residents.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
