Three people were hospitalized following a collision involving a Toronto Police Service cruiser, prompting an investigation by the province’s police watchdog.

The crash occurred Tuesday morning around 10:15 a.m. at Albion Road and Kipling Avenue when a civilian vehicle and a TPS patrol car collided. Initial information suggests the cruiser was travelling north on Kipling when it collided with a westbound vehicle entering the intersection.

One officer sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital. The driver of the other vehicle, a 19-year-old man, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. A 16-year-old passenger in that vehicle was also hospitalized with minor injuries.

Police say there is no indication a pursuit was underway at the time. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined, and the Special Investigations Unit has since taken over the case.
