A cottage on an island in Lake Muskoka was destroyed by fire early April 28, prompting a large emergency response. Crews from multiple stations arrived by boat, as access was complicated by flood debris and underwater docks. They ultimately reached the scene through Mortimer’s Point Marina.
Firefighters encountered the structure completely engulfed, with strong winds raising concerns the flames could spread to nearby forested areas. After roughly seven hours, the blaze was brought under control, with crews successfully preventing it from reaching surrounding land and preserving a nearby boathouse.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
