A large three-alarm fire tore through a building in Etobicoke early Wednesday, drawing a massive emergency response of roughly 100 firefighters and 27 trucks. The structure, previously leased to the Toronto Humber Yacht Club, was already fully engulfed when crews arrived near Humber Valley Road and Glenaden Avenue East around 4:45 a.m.
Fire officials say the blaze has been extinguished, but the building suffered extensive damage, with the roof completely destroyed. Despite the intensity, nearby structures were not affected.
Because the site was far from hydrants, crews relied on a relay system, using multiple trucks to move water from one to another to reach the fire. This allowed firefighters to quickly deploy hose lines and bring the situation under control.
No injuries have been reported. Investigators, including the Office of the Fire Marshal, are working with Toronto Fire and police to determine the cause, while crews remain on site to watch for any remaining hotspots.
Update – The blaze is now being investigated by police as suspected arson.
