A man in his 20s was seriously injured after being struck by an SUV that veered off the road and crashed into a building in downtown Ottawa.
Paramedics say the grey Honda Pilot mounted the sidewalk near Laurier Avenue West and O’Connor Street around 4:20 p.m., hitting the pedestrian before slamming into a structure at 234 Laurier Ave. W.
The victim was taken to a trauma centre with multiple serious injuries that are not considered life-threatening. Three adults inside the vehicle were assessed at the scene.
Ottawa police continue to investigate the incident.
Update – Police confirmed on May 4 that the driver has been charged with careless driving causing bodily harm under the Highway Traffic Act.
