A Scarborough shopping centre was cleared Friday night after a fire broke out in its food court.

Toronto Fire Services responded to Woodside Square Mall shortly after 8 p.m., initially encountering smoke inside the building before locating the source of the fire in a restaurant.

The situation was escalated to a two-alarm response as crews evacuated the mall and worked to contain the blaze. Firefighters were able to bring it under control without reports of injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
